Our charcoal black Gaboon Ebony wood wallets certainly are not for everyone, but if you're looking for the darkest, one of the hardest and likely the most rare and valuable wood species in existence, you've come to the right place. Prized for its unparalleled beauty and infinite blackness, a closer look will reveal a complex grain pattern deeply embedded within the never-ending darkness. At over 3X the hardness of Black Walnut, Gaboon Ebony ranks among the toughest wood species known to mankind, measuring 3,080 lb/f on the international wood hardness scale. Native to West Africa, the Gaboon Ebony tree is extremely slow growing and takes nearly 200 years to reach a size that can be harvested commercially. It is unlikely that the wood from which these wallets were carved was any less than a century old.
